WOMEN’S RETREAT: “RELATIONSHIPS MATTER”
Enjoy the fellowship of Hills Church women as we explore the topic, “Relationships Matter.” The event, taking place on Saturday, November 1st, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will be led by Rev. Dr. Bonnie Scott Jelinek at her home—please call the church for directions, 781-235-4424. This event is open to all women of the Hills Church. Wear comfortable, informal clothing. You may bring slippers, lap blanket, Bible, knitting, journal or notepad along with a morning snack or afternoon dessert to share with the group. Lunch and beverages will be provided, with a requested contribution of $10 for lunch. Volunteers are needed to assist Bonnie with the retreat materials and to help Carol Mills plan lunch. Questions, suggestions, and sign-up at Community Hour or contact Carol Mills (office: 617-722-5063, home: 781-239-0520, carol.mills@db.com).
DISCOVERING GOD BOOK GROUP
The next meeting of the “Discovering God” Book Group will take place on Wednesday, November 5th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Reception Room. Marilynne Robinson’s novel Gilead will be discussed.
MIHN NEWS
Do you speak Spanish or Portuguese? We are seeking volunteers who speak Spanish or Portuguese to help translate for guest families. Contact director Beth Cooper at 508-318-4820. There will be a voluntary informal Q&A session for volunteers on Sunday, November 2nd, at 11:30 a.m., in the Boardroom. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions that might not have been answered in the training sessions, or that are specific to our hosting week beginning Sunday, November 9th.
FALL FELLOWSHIP CELEBRATION
Please mark your calendars and save the date for this year’s Fall Fellowship Celebration. If you attended last year’s party, you already know how much fun is in store this year. Fine food, drinks and fellowship will be on hand Saturday, November 8th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the home of Cindy and Rob Jaczko at 51 Abbott Road in Wellesley. If you are a Wellesley Middle School parent with an event later that evening, please plan to join us early. Many thanks to the Jaczkos for opening their home to our members in celebration of our stewardship to one another.
IT’S CONGREGATIONAL CHOIR TIME AGAIN!
Once again we are inviting all interested singers to join in with our wonderful Chancel Choir as part of a Congregational Choir presentation. If you’ve ever wanted to sing with our choir but didn’t have the time to attend rehearsals every week, this is a great opportunity! And if you’ve joined us in the past for the Congregational Choir, we hope you’ll come back! We ask that you attend at least two of these three rehearsals: Wednesday evenings, November 5th, 12th, and 19th, from 8:00 p.m. till 8:45 p.m. We’ll be singing at our regular 10:00 a.m. service on “Thanksgiving Sunday,” November 23rd; this year we’ll be performing two Thanksgiving anthems, one with handbell accompaniment! If you have any questions, please speak to John Finney or any member of the Chancel Choir. (John can be reached at 508-652-9938 or johnf@hillschurch.org.)
DON’T FORGET YOUR FLU SHOT!
The annual Wellesley Health Department Flu Clinic will be held at the Hills Church on:
Wednesday, November 5th, from 1:00 -5:00 p.m.
Thursday, November 6th, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Wednesday, November 12th, from 4:00 -8:00 p.m.

PARISH LIFE SPONSORS NIGHT OF SQUARE DANCING
What do circles, parallel lines, and squares all have in common? Dancing, not geometry. Put on your dancing shoes and join the Parish Life Committee on Saturday, November 15th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., for a fun night of traditional and contemporary dancing. With simple instructions from our experienced caller, we’ll quickly get moving across the Assembly Room in a wide variety of fun dancing shapes. All adults (partners not required) and children grade school age and older are invited. Refreshments (beverages and desserts) will be served.
OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
Between now and November 23rd, the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we are trying to collect as many ‘things’ (see lists below) so that our children, through the sorting of these items, can be made aware of what we can do for our neighbors. Please be as generous as you can, especially in these tough times, and help our children work toward loving their neighbors as themselves—the theme of November’s Church School.
Toiletries: We really need sample DEODORANT! Keep the other items coming too, please
Adults: White socks and underwear/hats/mittens/ lightly used jackets or coats
Children: White underwear/hats/mittens/small toys/ lightly used jackets or coats
Food Pantry: Tuna fish, canned beef stew, baked beans, canned vegetables, pasta sauce (tin or plastic containers only), Spaghettios, paper towels, toilet rolls.
There are baskets at both entrances to the church for Toiletries and Wellesley Food Pantry. All other donated items should be directed to Jim Brommers Bergquist via the church office.
There’s another big event at the Hills Church on November 8th called the “Scouting for Food” drive. Please contact Gail Lockberg at gaillockberg@prudentialtnc.com, if you would like to volunteer to help at this event.
